The Premier and Football League 1992 - 1993
At the end of the 1991-1992 season, the First Division clubs withdrew from the Football League to form the Premier League under the supervision of the FA. The move paved the way for the top clubs to negotiate their own TV deal with Sky TV, which would radically transform the economics of the game. The three Football League Divisions were renamed as Divisions One, Two and Three and were sponsored by Barclays (the Premier League had no sponsor in its first season). The fashion was for extravagantly busy kits with complicated detailing and jacquard patterns woven into the fabric. The Premier League introduced players' names on the back of their shirts and competition patches worn on the sleeve.
