Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League 2007 - 2008
The twelve clubs of Scottish Premier League or SPL have largely stayed with traditional designs this season. Aberdeen have a third kit that reminds us they were once known as "The Wasps" while Falkirk's new home kit commemorates their Scottish Cup win of 1957. Celtic's home kit is also a nod to history, commemorating the great European Cup final against Internazionale of Milan 40 years ago. A number of Scottish clubs now carry secondary sponsorship on the front and back of their shorts.

Aberdeen have stayed with their traditional all-red kit although the trim is slightly different from last season. Away from home they wear a plain white kit when necessary while the club's third kit recalls the gold and black worn before the Second World War. Two stars above the badge signify the two European trophies won by the Dons.

To mark the 40th anniversary of their European Cup victory in 1967, Celtic have introduced a commemorative home kit modelled on the strip worn by the Lisbon Lions. The badge has gold embroidery written in Portuguese and the gold star (adopted in 2004) also marks the achievement. A bottle-green away kit has been introduced and last season's vertical green and black stripes is now their third kit.

Dundee United have stayed with their traditional outfit but in a surprisingly retro version of Hummel's template, reminiscent of the mid-1980s. The away kit is simply an all white version with orange and black trim.

Falkirk's new home kit recalls the one worn 50 years ago when the Bairns won the Scottish Cup and carries the same "Highlander" badge. The away and third kits both carry the modern club badge, which also appears on the shorts of the home kit.

Gretna make their debut in the Premier League after their astonishing five year climb from the English Unibond League. As their Raydale Park ground does not meet SPL standards, Gretna are playing their home games at Fir Park, Motherwell this season. Their home kit is identical to last season but with a new sponsor.

The addition of a dark green stripe to the Hibs kit and green inner sections on the arms make for a striking and original design. The club wore dark green shirts for many years before the familiar emerald shade was introduced in the 1930s. Green shorts were worn as they had been in 2006-07 but during October, white shorts were adopted at home. The black away kit has subtle trim in dark green that echos the home shirt.

ICT's kit is unchanged from last year but has a new sponsor. The club's home kits combine the colours of the former Caledonian (blue and white) and Inverness Thistle (red and black) clubs. Over the summer supporters were invited to subscribe £100 to have their names recorded on the black commemorative away kit.

Bukta have produced a variant on Motherwell's iconic claret chest band, which also features on the away kit.
On 29 December 2007, Motherwell's captain, "Uncle" Phil O'Donnell collapsed during the match against Dundee United and died of a heart attack. As a tribute, the first team played out the rest of the season in shirts bearing his signature. The club also renamed the main stand in his honour.

Rangers' home kit for this season combines one of Umbro's new templates with a traditional look for the stockings. An all blue version is available for away games. The away kit is an interesting white and "aubergine" outfit while the third kit is a very unusual combination of grey-blue with black stripes and light blue piping.

The second team in the SPL to have gone for Hummel designed kits is St Mirren. Their home strip has a less traditional look than last season's, with white sleeves and shoulders as well as the ubiquitous Hummel "v" trimmings. The away kit (in pale blue, navy and white) and third kit (red and white) are attractive and restrained.
