Irn Bru Scottish Second Division 2012 - 2013
Falling attendances, declining revenues in the face of recession and widespread disillusion with the way the Scottish game is run are creating increasing pressure on all Scottish clubs but in the second and third tiers these pressures are acute. These part-time clubs survive thanks to devoted and loyal support from supporters: average attendances last season ranged from 463 to 833 with just a handful of games attracting more than 1,000 supporters.

Alloa were promoted as Third Division champions and have decided to drop the hooped shirts worn for the last five seasons in favour of plain gold shirts with black swooshy bits. It all looks a bit busy by today's standards. The away kit is unchanged.

Ayr's new home strip is plain white, with no trim at all apart from the usual logos and very smart it looks. The last time the club opted for all-white, the manager stepped in to insist on traditional black shorts so we will have to see if history repeats itself. Black embroidery has been added to the club crest to make it stand out better.

Only four years ago Queen of the South were in the second tier and were narrowly beaten by Rangers in the Scottish Cup final. Times have changed and they now find themselves in the Second Division. The new all-blue look, (a style previously worn in 1999-2000) may be intended to improve their image and fortunes. The official supporters' travel club won the shirt sponsorship lottery.

Stranraer were moved from the Third to Second Division because of the reshuffle in the SFL. The black shorts worn with the home strip are unprecedented and give the team an unfamiliar look. The design is the same as the attractive "Toronto" template used for the away kit that was introduced last season.
