FIFA Women's World Cup 2007 Group D
China were seeded in Group 4 as hosts and had qualified automatically. They had won the Asian championship for the eighth time in 2006 but so far the World Cup had eluded them. Brazil had finished as runners-up in the 2006 Sudamericano Femenino while New Zealand had easily won the Oceania Championship, which, now that Australia had joined the Asian Confederation, was far from competitive. In fact only four out of the OCF's eleven members had entered the competition.
