Welsh Premier League Cynghrair Bel Droid Cymru 2014 - 2015
The WPL is the national, semi-professional competition for Welsh clubs. It is fed by the Cymru Alliance in the north and the Welsh Football League in the south. Promotion is not automatic: the regional champions must submit an application, have a stadium that meets WPL standards and a domestic licence granted by the FA of Wales. If the regional champions do not apply the second placed club(s) may do so instead. Over the past few seasons the competition has become dominated clubs from north and mid Wales as southern teams have been relegated or gone out of business.
This season Cymru Alliance champions Cefn Druids replace Afan Lido who finished last in 2013-14 and were relegated to the Welsh League. This led to a major row between the FAW and the Welsh League clubs who rejected plans to relegate an extra club to accomodate the Aberavon team.
