Group B is played in the Ukrainian cities of Lviv and Kharkiv. Arena Lviv, completed in October 2011, holds 34,915 and has a partially transparent roof to allow sunlight onto the pitch. Car parking is accomodated underneath the stadium. The Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv dates back to 1925 and has undergone its fourth renovation in preparation for Euro 2012: it now has a capacity of 38,633. This group brings together two of the greatest rivals in Europe, Germany and the Netherlands. Regardless of who wins the tournament, victory in this match will be the priority for their fans.

Denmark pulled off a surprise win against one of the tournament favourites. Their goal came from Michael Krohn-Dehli in the 24th minute after which they defended effectively against a Dutch team that dominated possession but was unable to finish.

Germany managed a narrow win thanks to a goal 18 minutes from the end of the match. Portugal finally started to attack with purpose but had left it to late. The match was marred by misbehaviour by both sets of fans who set off smoke bombs and threw missiles on to the pitch.

Portugal were cruising 2-0 up as half-time approached when Bendtner pulled one back for the Danes. With ten minutes left he scored again to level the scores but with less than three minutes to go, Varela thrashed home the winner after initially miskicking. The result left both teams level on points with identical goal differences.

Gomez scored twice in the first half to give the Germans the advantage. Although van Persie pulled one back in the 73rd minute, the German team kept their poise and booked a place in the next phase.
