European Championship 1968 Final Stage
UEFA changed the name of the competition and the knock out stages were replaced by group qualifiers, played over the previous two seasons. The 1967 and 1968 British Home Championships served as the qualifying group for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. A total of 35 teams entered (only Iceland and Malta declined) and the four finalists were decided by quarter-finals, played over two legs, home and away. Italy were chosen to host the final stage.
