FIFA World Cup 1970 Group 4
Peru, making their first appearance since 1930, were a revelation, playing all out attacking football with complete disregard for defence. West Germany brought the core of their 1966 squad strengthened with the excellent Sepp Maier now automatic first choice in goal and a remarkable young striker, Gerd Müller. Debutants Morocco aquited themselves with honour, giving West Germany a fright and drawing with Bulgaria.
The Bulgarians came up with their own unique solution to playing in high temperatures by wearing shirts with deep scooped necks.
