Sloppy defending allowed Sweden to build a 2-0 lead by half-time but Nigeria attacked relentlessly and drew level early in the second half. Sembrant put Sweden ahead again on the hour and they were hanging on for a win when Ordega ran onto a perfect pass and fired home the equaliser in the 87th minute.

The Matildas gave as good as they got in the first half and scores were level at the break. In the second half Megan Rapinoe took the game in hand, creating the Americans second goal and scoring the third, her second of the match.

The second and fifth ranked teams played out a stalemate in front of a capacity crowd (32,716). There was one clear-cut chance 15 minutes from time that might have clinched it for Sweden but Klingenberg, all 5' 1" (155cm) of her, leaped to head Segar's shot onto the bar and away.

De Vanna scored early on for the Matildas but Jakobsson equalised with a quarter of an hour played, From then on it was tense and it took some determined defending by Australia to hold on to the draw that took them into the knockout stage. When the group matches were concluded Sweden found they had also progressed, topping Thailand in the 3rd place team rankings on goal difference.
