FIFA Women's World Cup 2015 Group E
Brazil, the highest ranked of the South American qualifiers (7th) and holders of the Copa América Femenina, topped the group with three wins. South Korea owed their qualification to finishing fourth in the AFC Asian Cup while Costa Rica were runners up in the CONCACEF Women's Championship. Neither Spain nor Costa Rica had appeared in the finals before.
The Brazilian team wore five stars above their national crest, a reference to the achievements of the men's team in the World Cup. After the boys' humiliation in 2014 this might have been thought of as ill-considered hubris.
