Euro 2004 Group C
Sweden, Denmark and Italy finished level with five points each and drew all their matches against each other so could not be separated by points won or goal difference accrued in the matches involving the three (the results against Bulgaria were disregarded under the rather complicated tie-break criteria). Positions were decided by goals scored in matches between the tied teams putting Sweden (3 goals) and Denmark (2) through while Italy were eliminated with 1 goal. Curiously if the old system of separating teams through goal difference in all group matches had been used the result would have been the same.
