Although the South Americans grabbed the lead in the third minute, the Germans fought back and were in the lead at half-time. Rahn added the third 11 minutes from time, his second goal of the match.

Argentina had not brought a change kit so had to borrow a set of yellow shirts from the host club, IFK Malmö.

The Irish had a fine team that included Danny Blanchflower, Billy Bingham, Harry Gregg and Derek Dougan but even so, were rank outsiders. Wilbur Cush put them into the lead in the 20th minute and from then on they defended desperately to protect their lead. Towards the end, the Czechs were besieging the Irish penalty area but they could not find a way through.

Once again, Northern Ireland took an early lead but they could not get the better of the fast and skilful Argentinians, who leveled the score before half-time. In the second half Ireland were outplayed and conceded two more.

Czechoslovakia were leading 2-0 at half-time but in the second half, the Germans came back with two goals in nine minutes after an hour of play to salvage a point.

In a fast-paced game, Northern Ireland led twice but each time were pegged back, Germany's new star, Uwe Seeler, scoring the second equaliser with eleven minutes to go. The Irish goalkeeper, Harry Gregg, received much praise for his performance, making several fine save despite suffering from a badly twisted ankle and a shoulder injury. The result in Helsingborg mean that West Germany topped the group while the Irish would have to meet Czechoslovakia again in a play-off.

Argentina were embarrassed by a fine Czechoslovakian performance. At half-time they were 3-0 down and although Corbatta gave them some slender hope with a penalty in the second half, Feureisl restored the margin four minutes later and Hovorka added two late goals to send Argentina home humiliated.

Zikan put Czechoslovakia into the lead with 15 minutes played but the Irish, playing with exuberant spirit, equalised just before half-time. In the second half, Ireland were the better side but there was no further scoring so the game went into extra-time. Nine minutes after the restart, McParland scored his second goal of the match. Czechoslovakia's hopes effectively ended when Titus Bubernik was sent off three minutes later apparently for spitting at the referee.
