South Korea, now competing as Korea Republic, qualified for the finals for the second time in succession. Spain and Belgium qualified without too much difficulty but Uruguay needed a goal in injury time in their final game to squeeze into the next round.

Degryse scored in the 53rd minute for Belgium, hoisting the ball high into the air over the Korean goalkeeper, who had advanced well out of his area, to drop perfectly into the net. De Wolf hammered in a long range shot from the left eleven minutes later.

Belgium's second goal, scored by Scifo in the 22nd minute, was a first time volley from fully 30 yards, and one of the goals of the tournament. The win assured Belgium of a place in the next round.

Michel scored for Spain in the 22nd minute but three minutes before half time South Korea equalised. Michel completed his hat trick in the second half to earn Spain the two points.

Michel again opened the scoring for Spain from a penalty after 20 minutes. Vervoort equalised eight minutes later but in the 38th minute Górriz scored what proved to be the decisive goal. Spain topped the group but Belgium also qualified in second place.

There was no score after 90 minutes and then a high cross was missed by a Korean defender, allowing Fonseca to head home. The late goal made all the difference as Uruguay finished third with a record that was just good enough to qualify for the next round.
