The match was interrupted in the 72nd minute by a torrential thunderstorm and the players were off the pitch for 45 minutes before the storm abated. When they returned the Swedes picked up where they had left off but this time their efforts were rewarded with late goals from Asllani (83') and Janogy (90+3).

The United States got off to a flying start with a record breaking win against the hapless Thailand team. from the kick off their intent was clear as seven players raced upfield and it took only 12 minutes for the first goal to arrive. They were absolutely ruthless with Alex Morgan named player of the match with five goals.

The Swedes put on a superb display of attacking football that swept Thailand aside. The diminutive Thais struggled to compete with the Swedish players in the air but they did get a consolation goal in injury-time when Kanjana Sung-ngoen raced clear and hammered the ball past the Swedish goalkeeper, causing much celebration on the bench and on the field.

Carli Lloyd scored twice as the USNWT booked their place in the last 16. Julie Ertz scored the other goal which all came in the first half.

Horan put the USA into the lead in the third minute while Heath crashed in a second in the 50th minute. This goal was officially recorded as an own goal by Andersson

Chile had a shot at making it into the knock-out rounds if they could win by three clear goals. Their first came in the 48th minute when the ball cannoned off the post and in off the legs of the hapless Thai goalkeeper. With ten minutes to go Urrutia made it 2-0 with a header and three minutes after that Chile had a penalty but Francisca Lara crashed the ball against the bar and Chile were out.
