UEFA Euro 2000 Knock-Out Stages
The Golden Goal rule, introduced in Euro 96, was again used to decide matches that went into extra-time, the first team to score in the added period being declared the winner. If there was no score in extra-time, the match was decided by penalty kicks.
France, riding their luck and benefitting from several dramatic late goals, finished as champions and became the first team ever to hold both the World and European titles.
