FIFA World Cup 2006 Knock Out Stages
Several records were set in the knock out phase. David Beckham became the first England player to score in three World Cups, while Valentin Ivanov issued a record number of yellow and red cards in the "Battle of Nuremburg." Switzerland became the first team in the history of the World Cup to be eliminated without conceding a goal and the first to fail to score in a penalty competition.
The most important record was set by Brazil's Ronaldo who became the highest scorer in the history of the World Cup finals with his 15th goal against Ghana, beating the previous record set by Gerd Müller in 1974.
