Uruguay
Uruguay came from behind to secure three points, their goals coming either side of half-time.

Senegal
A late strike earned Senegal a draw in the opening fixture against the hosts. The strips worn by the teams feature strong patriotic themes. The strip designed by Stella McCartney for Team GB is inspired by the union flag, of course, while the subtle pattern printed into Senegal's shirts is the baobab tree, their national symbol.

Uruguay
Uruguay came badly unstuck against a Senegal team reduced to ten men after Abdoulaye Ba was sent off after half-an-hour. Despite this setback, the African side held onto their lead and added a second just seven minutes later. In the second half of an entertaining match, Senegal focussed on counter-attack and both sides missed good chances.

Ryan Giggs put Team GB ahead with quarter-of-an-hour played but the result was by no means a foregone conclusion. Playing with rapid movement and precision passing, the UAE often made the home side's defence look vulnerable and it was no surprise when Rashed Eisa scored after a typically incisive move. The UAE dominated the next phase of play but when Scott Sinclair replaced Giggs in the 72nd minute and promptly scored, Team GB's nerves settled. Sturridge made it three with a fine chip over the 'keeper four minutes later.

The UAE weathered the Senegalese opening assault and grabbed the lead in the 21st minute. Moussa Konate equalised shortly after the interval and remained in control. The result was enough for the African team to progress to the next phase.

Uruguay
There were few chances in the first half as both teams were anxious not to concede. Daniel Sturridge broke the deadlock in time added on at the end of the first half. In the second half the game opened up and Uruguay were unfortunate not to score: Ramirez struck the bar on 92 minutes and with seconds left, only a fine save by Butland prevented Suarez's curling free-kick from going in.
