A lacklustre Welsh side spent most of the match penned deep in their own half while the Swiss repeatedly bombarded them with crosses. It was no surprise when Embolo headed Switzerland into the lead four minutes after half-time but Moore equalised, (74') glancing Morrel's delicate cross into the net off the gaffer tape that seemed to be holding the top of his head on. The Swiss had the ball in the net again with five minutes to go but to the reiefe of Wales' 500 traveling supporters, the goal was disallowed for offside after the VAR review.

There were over 30,000 supporters in the enormous stadium cheering Turkey on. The hostile atmosphere seemed to inspire Wales who attacked relentlessly. In the 42nd minute Bale released a lofted pass forward that split the Turkish defence for Ramsey to take the ball on his chest before sliding it past the goalkeeper. Turkey came back strongly in the second half and there were some anxious moments for Wales. Bale missed a penalty but in a nailbiting finish, he danced along the touchline after a corner before laying the ball off to Roberts who lashed it home in the fifth minute of added time.

Wales did well to contain an impressive Italian team to a single goal, especially after losing Ampadu, sent off after a lunge at Bernardeschi 15 minutes into the second half. As Switzerland beating Turkey 3-1, Wales had to dig deep in the last 30 minutes to withstand the Italian onslaught. The results meant that Wales secured second place on goal difference.
