2020 European Football Championship Group E
The host city for Group E was to be Bilbao but this was switched to Seville where Covid-19 infection rates were lower than in the Basque Country at the time when the final decisions on venues were made. The remaining matches were scheduled to be played in Dublin but were switched to St Petersburg because the FA of Ireland was unable to meet UEFA's requirement of a minimum 25% spectator attendance.

Poland were fancied to win against their neighbours but it was Slovakia who scored first, after Mak's shot rebounded off the post and went in off the Polish goalkeeper. Poland equalised immediately after half-time but when Krychowiak was sent off for a second bookable offence, the game turned in Slovakia's favour. In the 69th minute Skriniar unleashed a fine low shot from the edge of the penalty area and that was that.

In the 30th minute a shot from Sarabia struck the Slovakian crossbar and cannoned vertically into the air before dropping back down. The goalkeeper, Dubravka, who had saved a penalty earlier, completely misjudged the flight and flapped the ball into his own net. The floodgates then opened and Spain cruised into the knock-out stages in second place.

Just 82 seconds into the game Forsberg dribbled through the Polish defence to score. Lewandowski later headed onto the underside of the bar from a corner and, incredibly, struck the bar with his follow up header. Forsberg extended Sweden's lead on the hour but two minutes later Lewandowski struck with a brilliant solo effort and Poland were back in the game. They threw everything into the attack and in the 84th minute drew level, Lewandowski slipping his marker to collect a diagonal cross and slot home from close range. His side pressed for the goal they needed to stay in the competition but it was Sweden's Claesson who scored in injury time to put his team top.
